Learning
Guide:

1.       A:你看那个男的,好帅!

l  发音:“好帅(3+4)”

l  1)男的:比“男人”更口语。 In spoken Chinese, ‘nán de’ is more appropriate than ‘nán rén’
when referring to a man.

2)好adjreally adj. ‘Hǎo’ before an adjective functions as an adverb of
degree, similar to ‘really’ in English.

2.       B:你看到他的纹身了吗?

l  发音:“看到(4+轻)”“纹身(2+1)”

l  1)看到:看 is to look, 看到 is see,表示结果。 ‘Kàn’ means ‘to look’, but adding the complement ‘dào’ expresses
that you have (or haven’t) seen something.

2)了:这里表示动作完成。 The particle ‘le’ in this context means that the verb or
action has been completed.

3.       A:看到了,好酷!

(无)

4.       B:酷?他一定不是个好人。

l  发音:“一定(1+4变调成2+4)”“不是(4+4变调成2+4)”“好人(3+2)”

l  1)一定:表示非常肯定的主观臆断。 ‘Yīdìng’ (certain, certainly) is used to express certainty about
something from the perspective of the speaker.

2)个:前面省略了“一”。在口语中,“个”前面如果是数词“一”,“一”常省略。 In spoken Chinese you can sometimes omit the number ‘one/a’ from before
the measure word ‘ge’.

5.       A:你怎么这样想?

l  发音:“这样(4+4)”“想(3)”

l  1)怎么:这里不是how,意思是why, how come。比如:你怎么这样说?你怎么走了? In this context ‘zěnme’ is closer in meaning to ‘why’ than ‘how’, similar to
‘how come’ in English. For example, ‘why are you talking like this?’ and ‘how
come you’re leaving?’

2)这样:放在动词前面,表示do sth this way.  ‘Zhè yàng’
must go before the verb, and means to do something ‘like this’ or ‘ in this
way’.

6.       B:好人有纹身吗?快走!

l  发音:“快4”“走(3)”

l  +V:“快”放在动词前面,表示do sth quickly. 比如:快说、快来。 ‘Kuài’
before a verb functions as an adverb, and means to ‘do’ something quickly.
For example, ‘say it quickly’ or ‘come quickly’.

Practice:

(2)    例句练习:

你看到___________了吗?

Outro

很多中国人,特别是年纪比较大的人,看到有纹身的壮男都会有些偏见,觉得他们不是好人。这是因为很多电影里黑社会的人都有很大的纹身。
